Micah Rafe Homestead Walk

Please join a free, guided walk with Noogaahsjun, a descendent of the Nauset tribe and member of the Wolf Clan of the Wampanoag Nation, to discover the far-reaching history and culture of Indigenous people in Harwich. On the high banks of Muddy Creek located in what is now called the D. Isabel Smith Monomoy River Conservation Lands, there once stood the old homestead of “the last full-blooded Harwich Indian”, Micah Rafe and his wife Hosea Stephens. Learn about their story, become curious about the lifeways of the First People, and explore the scenic trails.

As part of its Native Cultural Initiative, the nonprofit Friends of Pleasant Bay is collaborating with Harwich Conservation Trust and Orleans Conservation Trust to offer guided walks that illuminate Indigenous history and culture in the Pleasant Bay area.
