Mayo Beach Hike

Sponsored by Wellfleet Conservation Trust and Harwich Conservation Trust, join walk leader Mark McGrath on a unique one-way hike from the Great Island parking area to Wellfleet Harbor while enjoying bayside views as well as local history. Walk across the Chequessett Neck Bridge beneath which the Herring River flows and where the largest salt marsh eco-restoration project in the Northeast will take place upstream.

Then stroll along the beach to the Wellfleet Harbor pier. Along the way walk past the site of two Edward Hopper paintings, the site of the storied Chequessett Inn, and several oyster farms.

This hike is timed to coincide with low tide. It will be 2.5 miles on flat beach sand that is halfway between loose and firm.
