Guided Mindful Walk Among Atlantic White Cedars
Please join naturalist Andrea Higgins to explore your senses on a guided mindful walk among Atlantic White Cedars in the Cape Cod National Seashore.
An Atlantic white cedar swamp is a mysterious place of mossy hummocks rambling around the roots of dignified spires stretching skyward. If you're unfamiliar with these fascinating wetland communities, picture towering cedars casting deep shade on the boggy, tumbled terra firma below.
As the sun’s rays filter through this vertical mosaic of patient branches and earnest leaves, naturally there’s not much light left for the moist, acidic soil below. Perhaps it’s this earthy collage of cool, damp, sponginess punctured by robust, fibrous, almost woolly tree trunks standing tall above that gives our senses a brush with prehistoric times.
$20 to join Saturday, October 15th (9-11 a.m.): Atlantic White Cedar Swamp Mindful Nature Walk in Wellfleet sponsored by HCT and Wellfleet Conservation Trust.
This happens to be the same day as the Wellfleet Oysterfest so you could enjoy a morning mindful walk before heading downtown to see the festivities and sample local oysters.
Hike for approximately 2 hours and cover 2 miles. There will be varying terrain including soft sand as we enter the boardwalk area of the swamp.
Walk Guide Andrea Higgins will meet you in the parking lot to lead you to the boardwalk and start of the walk.
You will receive driving directions with your confirmation email.
