Outer Cape Storms, Shipwrecks & Rescues
Cosponsored by Harwich Conservation Trust and Eastham Conservation Foundation, join historian and author Don Wildling on an interpretive guided walk (Nauset Light Beach to Coast Guard Beach) on Saturday, May 23rd to explore the coastal storms, historic shipwrecks, and daring rescues along the Outer Beach of Cape Cod.
Travel across more than three centuries of Outer Cape shipwrecks from the Sparrow Hawk on Nauset Beach in 1626 to the Eldia in 1984. Don Wilding, columnist for the Cape Codder and author of the books, “Henry Beston’s Cape Cod” and “A Brief History of Eastham,” will discuss the North Atlantic storms and the wrecks in their wake including the Castagna, the Francis, the Montclair, the Jason, the Portland, and many more, while walking along the fluid and shifting sandbars where many of these events occurred.
